Kat Gils is a designer based in Sydney, Australia, currently studying her Honours in Fashion and Textile Design at the University of Technology Sydney. Focusing on joyful expressions of self, she utilises vibrant colour to bring hand-drawn textiles and beaded motifs to life, with the intention of creating garments to last a life time.

For her honours collection, she has been awarded a scholarship from Liberty of London, and is using their fabrics in her collection alongside her own textiles. With a focus on quality of material and a love for heritage and history, the Liberty prints perfectly coincide with vintage inspirations and the desire to create garments that transcend .​

She has interned at Romance Was Born, working closely with the design team on hand-stitching vintage doilies and embellishments to garments for the Resort 2022 collection at Sydney Fashion Week. During her time there, she also styled guests for the show, repaired archival pieces for the permanent collection at the Powerhouse Museum, styled and photographed content for social media and fashion week promotional material, quality controlled wholesale orders, and packaged and shipped e-commerce orders. 

 

Alongside her four year bachelors degree, she has also completed a Diploma of Innovation, which taught expansive thinking and entrepreneurship with a focus on trans-disciplinary collaboration.
